Michael R. Ober, 60, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018. He was the husband of Sherry Ochs Ober, with whom he celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2018. He was born in Ephrata, son of Evelyn M. Ober, Ephrata and the late L. Ray Ober. Mike was a Technical Education Teacher (Metal Shop) at Eastern York High School with 33 1/3 years of service. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Manheim Township High School, Class of 1976. He received his BS in 1980 from Millersville State College and in 1984 he was awarded his M.Ed from Millersville University. He was a trombonist with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. Mike received the Professional Teacher Award of Low Brass from the LLMEA in April of 2017. He was the founder, in 1992 and leader of the Dixieland Express Band. Mike was a member of Local #294 AF of M, and was a freelance musician for many years. He was a Little League Coach for CV and was the head coach for the Championship Team, the Marlins, in 2002. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan and he loved his dog, “Raider”.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, two sons: Keith M. (Ruth V.) Ober, Lancaster and Shawn E. Ober, fiancé of Erika Gaenzle and her daughter, Isabella of Manheim. Two grandchildren: Lilah Eve and Henry Michael. One niece and one nephew. One sister: Linda K. (Kent L.) Fritz, Lititz.

The Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 North Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Stephen P. Verkouw, officiating. Interment in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. Musicians are invited to bring an instrument to play along on “SAINTS”! Friends may call at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also on Friday at the church from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
