Thomas V. Spicer, Sr., 93, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Conestoga View. He was the husband of Mary Jane Habel Spicer to whom he was married for 52 years. He was born in Columbia, son of the late John and Emily Reese Spicer. He was an inspector for ITT Grinnell, now Anvil, for 41 years before he retired in 1987. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1943 and was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII with Company C, 141st Infantry, 36th Division, having fought in five major battles: Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church and the VFW Red Rose Memorial Post #2435. He supported Columbia High School Athletics, including Basketball and Football. Tom was an avid Penn State football fan and a Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed trout fishing, Susquehanna River fishing, cooking and baking, music from the Glenn Miller Era, and Bing Crosby Christmas songs. He painted for 30 years with Bill Long and Ruppie.
Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Thomas (Sue) Spicer, Jr., Columbia; Gary (Kay) Spicer, Maytown; Lisa (Charles) Lehman, Columbia; Mike (Brenda) Spicer, Lancaster; and Scott Spicer, Lancaster. Thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother: John Spicer and one sister: Dorothy Grove.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM. Please omit flowers.
