Shirley F. McBride

 
 

Shirley F. McBride, 89, of Columbia, entered into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. She was the wife of the late Richard M. McBride. She was born in Bedford, daughter of the late John E. and Florence Troutman Gates. Shirley was a Quality Control Inspector for the former Hamilton Technology and later for Bulova Technology, where she retired in 1994 after 27 years. She was an LPN, having worked at the former Columbia Hospital and Heatherbank Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She also worked part-time at Weis Market in the deli. Shirley served in the Women's Army Corps during the Korean Conflict. She was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1952 and Willow Street Vo-Tech School. Shirley was a member of Calvary Bible Church, where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was a founding member of Columbia Citizen Action Committee; was a Republican Committee Woman; a past chairperson of the Columbia Republican Committee; a member of the Columbia K-9 Committee; member of the VFW Red Rose Memorial Post #2435; a member of the American Family Association; was the founder of Lancaster County Domestic Support Group; and the director of Korean War Veterans Association, Lancaster Chapter, General John H. Michaelis 327.

She is survived by two sons: David R. (Connie) McBride and Michael R. McBride. Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Deborah K. McBride.

The Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 629 Union School Road, Mount Joy, on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. with her son, Pastor David R. McBride, officiating. Interment in Henry Eberly Cemetery with Full Military Honors. There will be no public viewing, however, visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
