Francis Zimmer

Francis Zimmer, 77, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024. He was the husband of Irene (nee Michel) Zimmer with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 25, 2024. He was born in Chester, PA, son of the late William and Frances Smith Zimmer.

Francis was proud to serve his country by enlisting in the US Air Force. Trained as an aircraft and helicopter mechanic, he saw action in the Vietnam Conflict as part of the 40th Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron. Sgt. Francis Zimmer received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He distinguished himself by meritorious service while assigned to the 40th ARRS at Udorn Air Base during the Vietnam war.

Francis went to college on the GI Bill. He graduated with an AS from Community College of Delaware County in 1976. He also graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration from Widener College in 1978.

In Lancaster, he served on the boards of IMA (formerly NAA), IAFP, Meals on Wheels and the Lancaster Library in roles of Director, VP and President.

Francis was elected to serve on the Mountville Borough Council in 1996. He was re-elected to serve several terms until 2017. He was Borough Council President from 2002 to 2004. During his terms, he represented Mountville Borough at LIMC and PSAB. He served on the Borough Planning Commission from 2010 to 2024. While on Council, he earned the Certified Borough Official Certificate (CBO).

In 1986 he earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. From 1990 until his passing, he worked at Financial Management Group, Ltd. 

In high school, he managed the Varsity basketball team, was on the rifle team and played baseball and soccer. He was an avid photographer doing weddings, portraits, travels and celebrations.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one sister: Virginia (William) Kee. Nephews: Thomas and Andrew Kee. Sister-in-law: Rosemarie McFadden. Nephew: Kyle McFadden. Niece: Lindsay McFadden. Nieces: Sherri Betsy, Patricia Watson, Faith Zimmer and Terrilyn Parise.

The Visitation will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Interment will be private with Full Military Honors.
