Isidro Anthony Pino-Rodriguez

Isidro Anthony Pino-Rodriguez, 55, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. He was born in Havana, Cuba, son of the late Miriam Rodriguez Zurria and Usbaldo Pino Rivero, both of Havana, Cuba. Tony immigrated to the United States over 30 years ago from Cuba to Florida, on a small raft. He was a skilled painter and carpenter, known by many as "Tony the Painter." He had an outgoing personality and made friends easily.

He is survived by a daughter: Allison R. Rodriguez, Columbia.

Sakeenah Naceemah Abdul-Jaleel

Sakeenah Naceemah Abdul-Jaleel, 24, of York, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at York Hospital. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of Damon Everett Allen and Candi Allen and step-daughter of Willie Booker, and granddaughter of Sue Fitzkee. She was a Human Resource Representative for Eurofins, Lancaster. She was an animal lover, loved her dog Luna and her family.

Surviving in addition to her parents, four sisters: Tiesha (Jonathan) Montosa, Teasia Gray, Monique Gray and Nusaybah Abdul-Jaleel. Two brothers: Abdul-Jaleel Abdul-Jaleel and Abdullah Abdul-Jaleel. Aunt: Naomi Johnson. And a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother: Christopher M. Bishop. One niece: Aisha Jones-Gray. Paternal grandmother: Valerie Allen. Maternal grandfather: Charles Williams. Aunt: Charisse Good.

Jason M. Geiger

Jason M. Geiger, 42, of Wrightsville, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Breezy View Overlook. He was the husband of Ashley N. Danner with whom he celebrated their fifth wedding anniverary on June 23,2023. They had been together for 16 years. He was born in Lancaster, son of Vickie L. Miller Thomas and the late Gary L. Geiger, Sr., and step-son of Jeffrey L. Thomas, Sr. and Joann V. Geiger. Jason was a butcher at Sue’s Market and a cook at Rivertowne Restaurant for many years. He was a Las Vegas Raiders fan and a sports fan in general and was also a jokester. He enjoyed going to the beach at Ocean City, MD, his cat Baboo and he collected Funko Pops.

Surviving in addition to his wife, mother and step-father, two daughters: Haillie Geiger and Cambria Geiger. One son: Javian Kleiman. Brothers: Gary L. Geiger, Jr. and Jeffrey L. Thomas, Jr. Sisters: Korinda M. Geiger and Amber M. Thomas.

Carolina A. Celebuski

Carolina A. Celebuski, 92, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023. She was the wife of the late Eugene J. Celebuski, who passed away on June 10, 2010. She was born on July 26, 1930 in Phillipsburg, NJ, daughter of the late Amedeo F. and Augusta M. Allegri Badini. Carolina worked as a paralegal and was very active in religious organizations and helping others with their spiritual needs.

 Surviving are her children: Joseph (Clara) Celebuski; Carin Celebuski (Vince) Matanoski; Virginia Celebuski; Matthew (Trish) Celebuski; Mark Celebuski; Tony (Karen) Celebuski and Claudine Celebuski (Bernie) Kuo. Grandchildren: Rebecca Celebuski (Chang-Ho) Yoon; Christian; Calvin; Ethan; Cameron; Keira; Pascale and Josephine. Sisters: Virginia Cooper and Pauline Badini. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Annette Celebuski. Four brothers and two sisters.

William J. Knapp

William J. Knapp, 85, of Landisville, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 after a year long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Patricia Fridinger Knapp, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2023. He was born in Lancaster and raised in Columbia, son of the late William C. and Mary Storm Knapp. Knapp retired in 1997 as the Wire Editor for the Intelligencer Journal where he worked for more than 20 years. He was previously employed by the credit and Pulsar Divisions of Hamilton Watch, Lancaster and SLC, Blue Ball. He was a charter member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, since 1964. He was active for many years in the Hempfield Jaycees, in the local Republican Party in the 1960’s and 70’s and as a Little League Coach and Umpire for the Hempfield Youth Association. As an avid golfer, he was a familiar face at the former Indian Springs Golf Course. Knapp graduated in 1955 from Lancaster Catholic High School and earned a Liberal Arts Degree from St. Vincent College in 1959.

Surviving in addition to his wife, two sons: William M. Knapp, Lititz and Thomas A. (Michelle Perry) Knapp, York. One daughter-in-law: Donna H. Knapp, Washington Boro. Eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother: James F. (Fay Fry) Knapp, Washington Boro. A nephew and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son: John V. Knapp. A brother: Robert C. Knapp and a sister: Mary T. Knapp. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Peter I. Robert L. Janney

Robert L. Janney, 93, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Ella Mae Janney, who passed away on November 22, 2013. He was born in Chester County, son of the late Lee B. and Edna E. Brown Janney. He worked as a groundskeeper at Indian Spring Golf Course for 25 years. He was a member of the Grange in Russellville and enjoyed square dancing, gardening, his flowers and was a Bingo caller.

He is survived by one son: Ted Janney. Step-son: Skip (Diana) Martin, Jr. One step-daughter: Lynn Manbeck (Cheryl Koos). Two grandsons. Two great-grandsons and one great-great-grandson. Two sisters: Jean and Doris. Numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Jason C. "Big Ort" Ortman

Jason C. "Big Ort" Ortman, 49, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Dennis E. and Jean L. Graham Ortman. He was baptized at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1992, was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Michigan and Baltimore Orioles fan. He loved his family and enjoyed picnics and gatherings. Over anything else, he lived for his children.

He is survived by one son: Landon C. Ortman and one daughter: Darian A. Ortman. One brother: David R. (Robyn L.) Graham. Nieces and nephews: David, Aaron, Bella and Abby. Former wife: Denise Ortman and her mother, Robin Sanders, who helped care for him. Two Uncles: Les Graham and Mark Graham. Also several cousins.

Carol Jean Bruner

Carol Jean Bruner, 77, of Coatesville, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Lancaster Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Ann Mihara. Carol Jean was a chemist for Esschem Company. she was a graduate of Haverford High School, Class of 1963 and Beaver County College, (now Arcadia), Class of 1969. She was a very active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the American Chemical Society for 50 years, founding member of the Science Council and LEPC statewide and Delaware.

She is survived by one daughter: Patricia (Patrick) Gravelle, and one son: Jeremy L. (Shannon) Bruner. Four grandchildren: Shawn, Ian, Aeryn and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Diane L. Bruner.

Betty J. Daveler

Betty J. Daveler, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Hospice and Community Care. She was the wife of the late Edward B. Daveler, Jr. who passed away in 2018. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late James E. and Anna Zink Mahan. Betty was a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Masonic Village for 25 years before her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed traveling, vacations to Myrtle Beach, playing golf, watching golf on TV, Philadelphia sports teams and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons: Bruce E. (Amy Jo) Daveler and Michael A. (Karen M.) Daveler. One daughter: Beth C. Daveler (Louis Matsikas). One granddaughter. One step-grandson and two step great-grandchildren. Three sisters: Grace (Harold) Lenhard; Helen (Eugene) Yohe and Ruth (John) Deitzel. One brother: James (Mike) Mahan-Soto. One brother-in-law: Joseph F. Wallack. She was preceded in death by one sister: Mildred Wallack.

Steven H. Kelshaw

Steven H. Kelshaw, 71, of Lancaster, entered the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 21, 2023. He was the husband of Ginger D. Walter Kelshaw with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Harold and Marian Smith Kelshaw. Steve was an estimator for Clayton Gerlach, Inc. Builders for 39 years before his retirement. He was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church, was a den leader for Cub Scouts, assistant coach for the Mountville Astros baseball team and enjoyed carpentry.

Steve, I love you, you truly were my rock, probably more than you ever knew. We had more memories to make, but those will have to wait until we meet again. I'm so thankful for your faith, because that gives me peace knowing that I will see you again. Love You, Ginger.

Steve was an incredible father to his children, his quirky sense of humor and warm personality made all who met him feel at home. He will be remembered for all the heart he showed with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it when his time came. He carried himself with dignity, strength, and was full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one son: Eric (Melissa) Kelshaw, Landisville. One daughter: Stephanie Kelshaw and her partner Heather, Elizabethtown. Five grandsons. Two canine companions who were so dear to him. Three sisters: Linda (Bill) Quinn; Cheri (Barry) Mahoney and Susie (Rob) Grimm. He was preceded in death by one sister: Jackie Emenheiser.

John R. Gerfin

John R. Gerfin, 55, of Columbia, passed away peacefully in his sleep at UPMC, Harrisburg on Monday, May 15, 2023 after a brief illness. He was a deep thinker, an avid reader and a kind soul. John enjoyed riding bike, was a chess master and the only other person that could do “Chinese Push-ups” besides Bruce Lee and his daughter Lexi. When John was around you, everyone always had fun. He was a loving father, great brother and a fun uncle. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter: Alexis Gerfin. Grandchildren: Mitchell and Milana. Siblings: Christine (Nicholas) Meley, Michael (Spanky) Gerfin, Suzanne Gerfin (Bern Steffan), Vincent Gerfin and Jennifer Musser. Uncles: Michael (Evie) Nobile, Leo Nobile. Aunt: Kathleen Nobile. Annie W. "Winnie" Sheaffer

Annie W. "Winnie" Sheaffer, 82, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Neffsville Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Manheim, daughter of the late Roy H. and Dolly W. Heistand Bender. Winnie worked in quality control at Dart Container for 30 years before her retirement in 2002. She was a member of Newtown United Methodist Church, and Chickies Rock Moose Lodge #307. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her companion: Richard C. Null. One son: Keith S. (Marjorie K.) Sheaffer. Two daughters: Annette M. (Robert L.) Garman and Robin Sheaffer (significant other: Bill Shickley, Jr.). Seven grandchildren: Nicole, Brian, Jr., Ashley, Andrea, Jacqueline, Zachary, and Alexandra. Eight great-grandchildren: Ian, Ethan, Kayla, Brian, III, Isabella, Evalynn, William and Sutton. One sister: Kim (Ricardo) Hernandez. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward and Roy Bender, II.

Melanie Nicole Boyle, 25, of Lancaster and Long Beach, NY, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at UPMC Lititz. She was born in Rockville Centre, NY, daughter of Brian M. Boyle and his wife, Joanne Bridgette-Boyle, Lancaster and Darylanne Dunlay Boyle, Long Beach, NY. Melanie was a member of St. Ignatius Martyr Church and loved animals, painting, traveling, her friends and family, especially her grandparents.

Surviving in addition to her parents, one brother: Thomas P. Boyle. Maternal grandparents: Donald and Lorraine Dunlay, Long Beach, NY. Also several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Thomas and Virginia Boyle.

Jay M. Frey, Sr., 80, of Mountville, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Amy L. Frey, who passed away in August of 2008 and Julia K. Kilheffer Frey with whom he celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Mervin I. and Helen V. Coble Frey. Jay was a lifelong farmer and worked at Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Company before his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casinos, combine farming, traveling to his home in Clearwater, FL and going to the mountains in Huntingdon County. Jay was a loving husband and enjoyed his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Marianne Frey-Mowrer, Mountville. Four grandchildren: Danielle R. Davidheiser, Jamie L. Crump, Glenna A. Walter and Jay M. Frey, III. Six great-grandchildren. One daughter-in-law: Jean M. Frey, Elizabethtown. One sister: June H. Erb, Lancaster. He was preceded in death by one son: Pastor Jay M. Frey, Jr.

Baron Lee "Barry" Fry and Nancy Jane Fry

Baron Lee "Barry" Fry, 83 and Nancy Jane Fry, 83 of The Villages, Florida passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 and Tuesday, March 7, 2023, respectively.

Barry was born in Summit, NJ, son of the late William M. and Catherine Elizabeth Strittmater Fry. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1958 and a Veteran of the US Air Force. Barry was a Real Estate Agent and a member of American Legion Post #219, Fruitland, FL.

Nancy was born in York, daughter of the late Charles and Annabell Loucks Suydam. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1957 and was a Registered Nurse.

They are survived by two sons: Eric D. (Christine) Fry, Strasburg and Bill Fry and fiancé, Lisa A. Myers, Millersville, and two grandchildren.

Barry is survived by two brothers: Kerwin "Cub" Fry, Columbus, IN and William (Marian) Fry, Columbia and was preceded in death by one brother: Richard Strittmater.

Nancy was preceded in death by siblings: William, Howard and David Sudyam and Virginia Horst.

Mary Jane Sangrey

Mary Jane Sangrey, 99, of Millersville, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Luther Acres. She was the wife of the late Ross S. Sangrey who passed away in 2009. Mary Jane was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Albert Edwin and Anna Mary Long Weaver. She worked with her husband farming, had a market stand and worked at John Herr's Village Market in the kitchen. Mary Jane was a member of Farm Women Society and loved the Philadelphia Phillies. She also enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, church activities at Stehman Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member, trips to Ocean City, NJ, Clearwater Beach, Florida and the mountains. She also had a love for animals, especially cats and dogs.

She is survived by one son: James (Jodi) Sangrey, Millersville and one daughter: Carol Myers, Lancaster. Eight Grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother: John E. Weaver.

Phyllis Elizabeth Rosanski Turco

Phyllis Elizabeth Rosanski Turco, aka "Phoofie, Foof", 79, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. She was born in Liberty Corner, NJ, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Siarakowski Rosanski. She was raised in Long Island, NY and moved to Lancaster in the 70's. If anyone could kill you with kindness, it was our mother. She was one of those incredible human lights, shining out and always lending an ear or a heart to all she encountered along her path.

Our mom was an incredible hugger, artist, pillow and flower maker, listener, visionary, lover of Jesus and James Patterson, phenomenal grandmother, hater of milk and vegetables, proficient procrastinator, joy spreader to her daughters and grandchildren, plus the super bonus of hoarder of all kinds of fabulous found treasures.

Those who ever collided with her spirit know the magic of her Polish-gypsy heritage. Even while we tended to her last and final moments at home, all she could think about was the wellness of her children and if we were warm enough, slept enough, ate enough or needed a sweater.

There are no words to satisfy how much of a lasting hole this has left in our hearts. She will always be our mom - willing to defend and empathize with our needs, even when her strong willed daughters were in the wrong. May the world pause for a moment to reflect upon all the love that surrounds so many and to practice gratefulness, gratitude and kindness - just what our mother would wish for. As she would say, "Don't talk with food in your mouth."

Surviving, devastated and fortunate members of her clan are her three daughters: Heidi M. Kelley and husband Chris of Marietta; Yvette A. Turco, Lancaster and Noelle A. Turco and partner Sam Wilsker, Lancaster. Grandchildren: Jeremy Stanke, Michael Turco, Mack Deeter, Kayla Geesey, Jason Reynolds, Gavin Morris and Leo Burgoon. Great-grandchildren: Sophia, Kali, Caroline, Kody and Zaylee. Her brother: Ken Rosanski and his wife Beverly of Amelia Island, FL. Phoofie was also preceded in death by her sister: Diana McCue and husband James McCue, Maryland.

A special thanks to all of the hospice workers (Red Team), who helped three bumbling novice daughters succeed with their mother's wish to pass away at home.

Mary Ellen “Mame” Beatty

Mary Ellen “Mame” Beatty, 90, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Neffsville Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of Donald E. Beatty with whom she celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on December 18, 2022. She was born in Middle Creek, PA, daughter of the late Raymond B. and Rebecca A. Reeder Loht. A graduate of McClure High School, she worked several jobs before pursuing an education in nursing. She was a graduate of Lancaster County Area Vocational Technical School with a degree in Practical Nursing and was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 19 years at York Hospital before her retirement in 1999. Following retirement, she continued to nurse as a mother to all the family. She was known for her fondness for her pets, especially her cats. Mame loved traveling, and her beloved Chicago Cubs, but nothing or no one was greater than her love for her husband, Don.

She is survived by two brothers: Philip R. (Betty) Loht, East Petersburg and Walter N. “Pat” (Elizabeth) Loht, East Petersburg. Three sisters: Barbara Whiteman, Havelock, NC; Jean E. Rutter, Manheim and Karen Rubincam, Lancaster. She was preceded in death by one sister: Shirley A. Snook.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on SATURDAY, MAY 13, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Leora M. “Toots” Hess

Leora M. "Toots" Hess, 83, of Manor Township, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at home. She was born in Manor Township, daughter of the late Willis C. and Ruth E. Fisher Hess. She was a production worker for Armstrong World Industries for many years before her retirement. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the mountains for the fall foliage and the beauty of nature.

She is survived by two brothers: John D. (Joyce) Hess, Newport and Kenneth F. Hess, Manor Township. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Gerald F. Hess, Willis C. Hess, Jr and Donald E. Hess.

The Funeral Service will be held at Salem United Church of Christ, 2312 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Maria Yocum-Carlson, officiating. Elsie M. Miller

Elsie M. Miller, 84, of Columbia, went to heaven on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of Charles D. Miller, Jr. for 51 years before he passed away. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late John and Dorothy Hall Spackman. Elsie was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed cross-stitching, crossword and word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and history shows. She also loved and treasured spending time with all of her family.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law: Joyce Miller, West Hempfield Township. One son-in-Law: Don Henning, Mountville. Six grandchildren: Brian, Sara, Steve, Tyler, Whitney and Daniel. Nine great-grandchildren: Corianne, Cameron, Dylan, Madalynn, Mya, Sadie, Faith, Lenny and Charlotte. Two brothers: David (Rita) Spackman and James Spackman, all of Columbia. Three sisters: Alice J. Weitzel, Lititz, Ruthann Morrow, Marietta and Regina Sherick, Columbia. She was preceded in death by one son: Stephen D. Miller and one daughter: Lisa M. Henning.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3825 Concordia Road, Columbia on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Anne Kingsborough, officiating. Visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment in the church memorial garden.
