Anna Mae Hess, 78, of Mountville, passed on to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Pequea, daughter of the late Christ M. and Edna Harnish Hess. Anna Mae worked as an LPN at St. Joseph's Hospital for three years, then moved to Washington DC, where she worked at Washington Hospital Center. She spent her evenings doing volunteer work for Peabody Street Mennonite Church, doing activities with children and youth in the community. Later, she volunteered and worked with Capital Christian Fellowship. She retired in 2007 and served in Guatemala under EMM short term.
Anna Mae loved animals and enjoyed walks with her dogs and meeting neighbors. In her love for the Lord, she wanted to welcome new neighbors and friends into her church. She had a real love for people.
She moved back to PA in 2017 and lived with her sister, Joy and brother-in-law, Phil Shertzer. She then became a member of Mountville Mennonite Church.
Anna Mae moved to Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in July of 2022.
She is survived by her siblings: Christ (Elaine) Hess; Pauline (Melvin) Reitz; Elvin (Sue) Hess; Raymond (Faye) Hess; Edna (Kevin) Kilheffer; Richard (Lynda) Hess; Joyce (Phil) Shertzer and Park (Stacy) Hess. She was preceded in death by brothers: Abe Hess and John Henry Hess; sister-in-law: Janie and one sister: Esther Hess.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mountville Mennonite Church, 205 Froelich Avenue, Mountville on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jim Laverty and her brother-in-law, Rev. Phil Shertzer, officiating. The Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Private Burial with the immediate family will be at Byerland Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Eastern Mennonite Missions.
