Christine Marie Agresta

Christine Marie Agresta, 72, of East Hempfield Township, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late John G. Agresta and Margaret M. Leschke.

A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1970, Christine was a dedicated and hardworking professional. She worked 13 years at ITT Grinnell as union secretary and spent 29 years as a supervisor at Scantron, Mountville, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues for her fairness and dedication.

Christine was deeply compassionate and always ready to help others. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, who gave her time generously to her community, including volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and helping with the annual Fastnacht fundraiser. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and watching birds and deer in her yard. But above all, her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who will always remember her unwavering love and support.

Christine is survived by her son: Frank A. Newcomer, Columbia and her daughter: Melissa A. Newcomer, Mountville. Three grandchildren, Reanna Norton, Cleveland, Ohio; and Luci and Daphne McDonald, Mountville. Sister: Barbara A. Collier, Harrisburg. Brother: George A. Leschke, Jr., Columbia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Deascenti, Lancaster.

Christine’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a light in her community, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a friend to anyone in need. Her love, kindness, and compassion will never be forgotten.

The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel, Celebrant. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Final Commendation and Farewell in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Wolf Sanctuary of PA, honoring Christine’s giving spirit.
