John A. "Jack" Gergal (Service Addendum)

 
 

John A. "Jack" Gergal, 88, of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully, at home, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Sydnie M. Gifford Gergal, with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 26, 2024, just three days prior. Jack was born in Shenandoah, son of the late Michael J. and Anna Radziak Gergal. He was of the Catholic faith.

He owned Jack's Restaurant Appliance Repair for 35 years and was well known in the community. Jack was a 20 year veteran, having served in Korea and the Vietnam Conflict with the US Air Force and the US Navy. In the Navy, he was part of VW1 AEWRON ONE Typhoon trackers. They would fly into the eye of typhoons and track weather information.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 469, Wrightsville; VFW Red Rose Memorial Post 2435, Columbia; Fleet Reserve Association Post 047, San Diego; and he was PER of Middletown/Columbia Elks Lodge BPOE #1074. Jack was an avid golfer and organized many golf tournaments for the Elks with proceeds going to various charities including the Special Olympics.

He was easy going, happy, witty, generous and loved to tell stories. Jack's family was the love of his life. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children K. Michelle (Ron) Kluegel, Gregory R. Abbott, Mark E. (Theresa) Brunner and Laurie A. Brunner; six grandchildren: Cass, Shelby, John, Kyle, Kara and Calla; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother: Francis (Florence) Gergal. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Thomas, Michael, Robert and Edward Gergal.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 10:45 A.M. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 P.M. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. Please omit flowers.
