Doris Jean Garrity Stone, 74, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully, after a long illness on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She was the wife of the late Richard L. Stone for nearly 50 years of marriage. Doris was an accomplished ballroom dancer and especially loved swing dancing. She started her career in the fitness industry in Pittsburgh in the late 60's where she met her husband, Richard. They moved to Lancaster in the early 70's, where they started Lancaster Health Spa and later Fitness America. She spent twenty years in the health spa business before spending fifteen years as an independent sales agent for Aflac. Doris was a devoted mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her grandchildren and her best friend Eva, who cared for her well during her illness. Doris will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two sons: Jason J. Stone, Lancaster and Richard J. (Amy M.) Stone, Lancaster. Two grandchildren: Samantha and Parker Stone. Two siblings: James (Kathy) Garrity, Lancaster and Diane (Henry) Dunlop, Holiday, FL
The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. There will be no public viewing.
