Chester Donald "Chet" Fuhrman, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Hospice and Community Care. He was the husband of the late Joyce D. Fuhrman. Chet was born in Columbia, son of the late Chester B. and Margurite E. Mutzabaugh Fuhrman. He grew up in Columbia, learning to repair cars in his dad's Kaiser, Fraser and Henry J. dealership. Chet was a Veteran of the US Navy Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a block operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad and was a Research and Development Technician at Armstrong Cork Company, at their Research and Development Center for 31 years before his retirement. He enjoyed photography and his railroad pictures were published in about 25 hardcover books. Chet was a proud and highly respected member in the HO Model Train world. He was a parrot enthusiast having performed and showed in trick parrot shows.

He is survived by two daughters: Christine (Steven) Helm and Luanne (Joe) Denver. Four grandchildren: Justin, Kristi, Stefani and Jenifer. Seven great-grandchildren. One step-son: James McBride. One step-daughter: Stephanie (Perry) Hoffmaster. Three step-grandchildren: Mitchell, James and Patrick. One brother: Maynard Fuhrman. One sister: Virginia Garber. 

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mark Harris, officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment in Ironville Methodist Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Please omit flowers.
