John C. Getz, 63, of Wrightsville, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021. He was born in Hazelton, son of Edgar Getz and Phyllis Heisey Miller. John Craig Getz entered the Navy in 1976 at the age of 20. He was assigned to the USS Nimitz Aircraft Carrier and stayed with her over his twenty-seven year career where he started as an Ordinance Technician. He most notably worked on the fighter loads for F-4 phantoms, F-16 falcons, and F-18 super hornets as an Aviation Ordinance Master Chief. Over the span of his career, he earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation, four Meritorious Service medals, the Navy Accommodation medal, three Navy Achievement medals, six Good Conduct medals and nine Sea Service ribbons. John served all over the world and collected memorabilia. He was a member of Reese-Hall VFW Post #8757, was in a Pool League and loved snakes.

Surviving in addition to his parents, one son: Johnathan Getz, Florida. One brother: Eddy Getz. Three sisters: Susan L. Getz; Pamela J. (Thomas) Kiscaden and Molly J. (Wade) Miller. He was preceded in death by Maternal Grandparents: Ed and Esther Stoudt and John and E. Dorothy Heisey. Also, Paternal Grandparents: Edgar and Myrna Getz.

The Graveside Service and Burial will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor Doug Evans, officiating. Gerald S. McMullen, 88, of Manor Township, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at home. He was the husband of Leah J. Ressler McMullen, to whom he was married for 66 years. He was born in Manor Twp., son of the late Howard and Amanda I. Sowers McMullen. He was a carpenter, having worked for TAH Construction before his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church at Creswell, was a Veteran of the US Army Serving during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed hunting, having been a founding member of the Safe Harbor Hunting Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Cindy (Craig) Frey; Jeff (Barb) McMullen; Greg (Melanie) McMullen and Cheryl (Jeff) Bitner. Nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. One daughter-in-law: Sally McMullen. One brother: Ken (Brenda) McMullen. He was preceded in death by one son: Jerry McMullen. One sister and two brothers.

Doris J. Ward, 90, of Landisville, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021. She was the wife of the late Albert G. Ward, who passed away on April 26, 2018. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Blair and Grace Young Eckman. Doris was a caseworker for the PA Office of Unemployment Compensation, Lancaster for 40 years before her retirement. Doris enjoyed reading and going to the family cabin in Sullivan County.

She is survived by three sons: Albert "Stanley" Ward, Steven E. Ward and Wesley B. Ward. Five grandchildren and one sister: Jane Cunningham.

William A. Martin, 87, of Bainbridge, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Nona L. Martin, who passed away on April 19, 2006. He was born in Johnstown, son of the late William H. and Anna M. Lewis Martin. He worked as a utility person for a cable company before his retirement; was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Community Bible Church. Bill enjoyed his daily breakfast at Hinkles, as well as his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by one daughter: Tanya G. (Richard L.) Heming, Bainbridge. Four grandchildren: Richard L. (Ally) Heming, Jr.; Sean W. (Jordan) Heming; Jourdan Benson and Austyn Martin. Five great-grandchildren: Brayleigh, Ivy, Karson, McKenzie and Liam Heming.

Rebecca Helen “Becky” Detz-Clark

It is with great sadness to announce the death of our most loved and cherished family member, Mrs. Rebecca (Becky) Helen Detz-Clark, who passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Becky was born on June 11, 1950 in Marietta, Pennsylvania and lived most of her life in Columbia, Pennsylvania with her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother Rebecca Helen Barninger-Detz, her father Quinton Detz, husband Richard W. Clark Sr., her step-son John Clark, and her siblings.

She is survived by her children and spouses: Michael Andrews (Alena Andrews), Scott Andrews (Tammy Andrews), Rebecca Clark (Scott Fry), Ted Clark (Jamie Ault), Melanie Martis (Ron Feltenberger), Dan Martis (Stephanie Kauffman), Rebecca Snyder; her stepchildren, Rick Clark (Kathy Clark), George Clark (Mary), and Donna Troutman. Her grandchildren: Christopher, Kelsey, Rebecca, Tyler, Alexa, Ayron, Paige, Ted Jr., Ayden, Kenzie, Amy, Charlie, Curtis, Harley and Logan. Her great-grandchildren: Ariella, Abigail, Adelia, Alexandra, Ashton, Easton and Ella. Survived by her brothers and sisters; Melvin Detz, Vernon Detz, Robert Detz, Catherine Griffin; and many friends.

Becky loved playing bingo, going to casinos, listening to Elvis Presley music, but most of all, loved being with and caring for her family. She devoted her life being a caretaker of many, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We all miss you very much and know that you are safe with your beloved family and friends in heaven.

Harold S. Wade, 93, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Juniper Village. He was the husband of the late Lorraine E. Wade. Harold was born in New Providence, son of the late Roy and Lizzie Brubaker Wade. He was a machine set-up person for Slaymaker Lock Company for 43 years before his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement, he was a builder of pre-fabricated homes for JC Snavely and Sons for three years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. Harold was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee, usher and communion steward. He was also a member of Columbia Lodge #286 F&AM; Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and the Valley of Harrisburg A.A.S.R. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing, hunting and long walks through Mountville.

He is survived by three sisters: Isabelle Bingaman, New Providence; Mildred Cayton, Scottsdale, AZ and Thelma Stauffer, Rawlinsville and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: Harry R. "Sam" Wade and two sisters: Mary Schnell and Alice Graybill.

Deborah Kay McBride, 64, of Columbia, entered into eternal life with her Lord on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. Debi was born in Lancaster on September 13, 1956, daughter of Shirley F. Gates McBride, Columbia and the late Richard M. McBride. She was employed by Driveline Company and she started The Widow's Oil Ministry. Debi was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1974. She was an avid collector of Lighthouses, was a compassionate and loving person who always went out of her way to help those in need and was a lover of felines. Debi was the author of the book, "The Rescued Cat that was Chipped." This book is to help stray and lost cats to be returned to their owners.

Surviving in addition to her mother, one son: Chad A. McBride; two daughters: Jessica Sharkey and Jaimie Sharkey. One granddaughter: Genesis. Two brothers: David R. (Connie) McBride, Tyrone, GA and Michael R. McBride, Columbia. Debi was preceded in death by one son: Kyle.

Charles R. Wolf, Sr., 87, of Manor Township, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. He was the husband of Patricia A. Sirbak Wolf, with whom he would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2021. Chuck was born in Lancaster, son of the late Charles L. and Ethel L. Graham Wolf. He worked as a milkman for Queen Dairy for 20 years before working as a laborer on the production line for Armstrong World Industries for 22 years, before his retirement in 1998. Chuck enjoyed gardening, square dancing, camping, fishing, jogging, playing cards and supporting family sports for many years.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by three children: Charles (Debra) Wolf, Jr.; Debra Purcell and Lynne (John) Wertz. Three step-daughters: Jan (Phil) Gring; Roxanne (Eric) McRoberts and Julie Platt. Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his twin sister: Carolyn Adams; son-in-law: Anthony Purcell, Sr.; grandson: Daniel Espejel and great-granddaughter: Eliana Meeks.

Joseph John McCade, Jr. & Mary Faith McCade

Joseph John McCade, Jr. passed away on Sunday August 29, 2021 and Mary Faith McCade passed away on Friday August 20, 2021, at St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia, PA. Joseph married Mary Faith Richardson McCade in 1952. Both were born in Albany, New York; he being the son of the late Joseph J. and Mabel E. Radley McCade and she being the daughter of the late Henry D. and Katherine M. Kelley Richardson.

Joe was a basketball star in high school and later coached and officiated basketball and several other sports for his son's teams. He graduated from Sienna College, Albany and was a medic in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, he worked briefly as a social worker in Albany. Joe then worked for the Department of the Army as a budget analyst beginning in 1956 until he retired in 1985.

Mary was a graduate of Holy Name High School, and enjoyed camping, boating, swimming, bowling and gardening. She was a homemaker, who had her hands full with three sometimes overly active boys. She was everything from den mother to chauffeur, sometimes adding the responsibility of caring for her own mother and mother-in-law. In the 1970's, she added a full-time job to her busy schedule. Mary worked at Cherokee Wholesalers in Alexandria, VA.

Their family lived in Albany until 1965 until they moved to Northern Virginia to enable Joe to work at the Pentagon. After retirement, they lived in Winchester, VA and Fort Meyers, FL until they moved to Linville, NC. They had an active retirement enjoying golf, church activities, friends and family. Joe and Mary moved to St. Anne's seven years ago.

Surviving are sons: Joseph (Jane) McCade, Lancaster; Brian McCade, Falls Church, VA and Daniel (Lisa) McCade, Charlottesville, VA. Five grandchildren: Thomas, Daniella, John, Devon and Laina. One great-granddaughter: Macey. Mary was preceded in death by one brother: John Richardson and one sister: Virginia Flansburg. Joseph was preceded in death by one sister: Rose Andres.

David L. Zimmerman, 82, formerly of Hempfield Hill Road, Columbia, where he lived most of his adult life, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 28, 2021. In later years, he lived at Willow View Retirement Home, Lancaster. He recently suffered a fall that caused his hospitalization. Following discharge from the hospital, he passed away a day later. David was born in Columbia, the third of four children of the late Paul W., Sr. and Beatrice Schoenberger Zimmerman. David graduated from Hempfield High School. He also graduated from Millersville State Teachers College, Class of 1961 and later with a Masters Degree from Millersville. He began teaching elementary students in Coatesville, then Parkesburg. His last teaching assignment was at Penn Johns, a one room school in the Conestoga Valley School District. That school consisted of mostly Amish Elementary students that he taught for several years. David left teaching in 1967 and began as a Librarian at the Lancaster County Library. After years in many departments there, he became the first librarian to serve the Library Book Mobile where it traveled to various rural areas in Lancaster County to make available a multitude of books to those that did not have access to those resources. He made numerous presentations to different groups that centered on history and books in general. David also started the branch library on South Duke Street, Lancaster. In retirement he traveled to numerous countries that he loved in Europe.

He is survived by his sister: Louise A. (Carl) Harnish, Columbia. One sister-in-law: Jennifer (Robert) Mohler, Lancaster. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul W. (Janet) Zimmerman, Jr. and Jere Zimmerman.

The Memorial Service will be held at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3825 Concordia Road, Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Anne Kingsborough, officiating. Ethel I. Zimmerman, 85, of Mount Joy, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at home. She was the wife of Richard E. Zimmerman with whom they would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on September 11, 2021. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Lloyd M. and Ethel I. Hartman Raifsnider. Ethel was a homemaker, worked as an LPN, and drove school bus for 13 years before her retirement. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1954. Ethel was a member of Silver Spring Baptist Church, where she played piano for many years. She also made many quilts for family members and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband, her children: Dale (Debra) Zimmerman, Columbia; Richard (Josie) Zimmerman, Battleboro, NC; Thomas (Cindy) Zimmerman, Willow Street; Samuel (Jennifer) Zimmerman, Spring Grove; Judy (Lester) Landis, Lititz; Jean (Terry) Stevens, Halifax and Lucy (Keith) Gillette, Reems. Twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Brothers: Lloyd Raifsnider, Mount Joy; Wayne (Cassie) Raifsnider, Petersburg and John (Leslie) Raifsnider, Denver. Sister: Janice (Jay) Charles, Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by sons: David and Dennis Zimmerman; grandson: Timothy Lester Landis; and brother: Jerry Raifsnider.

Paul S. Miller

Paul S. Miller, 70, of East Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was the husband of Janet L. Lamberson Miller, with whom he would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on December 28, 2021. Paul was born in Lebanon, son of the late Harold Klinefelter Miller and the late Julia Mae Snavely Krause, and was raised by Herschel Allen Krause. He worked for ISC-Ferranti, Mountville in a managerial position; also worked at Gambus, Quarryville and as a machinist at Richter Precision, East Petersburg before his retirement in 2015. Paul enjoyed gardening; fishing, having been a member of the Contrary Club, Ontario, Canada; was an avid walker and carved walking sticks.

Surviving in addition to his wife, two daughters: Julia B. (Ryan) Sweigart, Lebanon and Rachel D. (Andrew) Zellers, Lancaster. One son: Paul A. Miller, Lancaster. Two step-sons: Eric R. (Alana) Karr, Mount Joy and Lance M. (Tammy) Karr, Lancaster. Five grandchildren: Sylvia, Evan, Henry, Abram and Emmett. Four step-grandchildren: Taylor, Gage, Jenna and Megan. Clara A. Steffy, 77, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert Steffy. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Becker Jenkins. Clara was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Bertha P. Schoenherr, 92, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Pleasant Valley Manor, Stroudsburg.

She is survived by three children: Theodore H. (Sandy) Schoenherr, River Edge, NJ; Richard N. (Cathy) Schoenherr, East Stroudsburg; and Kristin M. (Mark E.) Moritz, Columbia. Five grandchildren: Brian (Stephanie) Schoenherr; Nicholas (Erin) Schoenherr; Alison Schoenherr; Erika Moritz; and Karl Moritz. Two great-grandchildren: Emery and Ella Schoenherr. One sister: Erika Jean Doherty, Tuckaho, NY. She was preceded in death by one brother: Harold Nielsen.

Ryan A. Groff, 46, of Lower Windsor Township, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at home. He was born in Lancaster, son of Robert A. Groff, Mount Joy and the late Esther M. Spangler Groff. Ryan was a Supervisor at Northeast Agri Systems, Lititz. He enjoyed going to his cabin in the mountains, hunting, NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.) and country-music singer, Miranda Lambert. Ryan enjoyed helping anyone who needed help with anything.

Surviving in addition to his father, two brothers: Randy A. (Stacey L.) Groff, York and Ronald A. Groff (companion of Dawn Dixon) New Holland. One sister: Robyn A. (Timothy J.) Goretzke, Mount Joy. Five nieces and nephews: Kellee Rodgers; Blaise Groff; Brandon Sheaffer and Tyler and Ashley Goretzke.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment in Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a favorite charity of one's choice. Robin M. Young, 65, of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. She was born in Huntingdon, daughter of the late Richard and Martha McCune Owens. Robin was a school teacher for Columbia Boro School District, having taught at Taylor Elementary, before her retirement. She attended First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster. Robin was a graduate of Penn Highlands High School, Class of 1973 and was instrumental in setting up the Class of 1973 social group.

She is survived by one son: Ryan L. (Meghan J.) Young, Manahawkin, NJ. One daughter: Meghan M. Young (fiance of Diumar Bran) Bohemia, NY. Six grandchildren: Chloe, Lewis, Nicholas, Brennan, Alexander and Alice. One sister: Mary J. Owens, Lewistown.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on SATURDAY, AUGUST 28, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
