Leonard J. Droege, Sr.

 
 

Leonard J. Droege, Sr., 97, of West Hempfield Township, entered into rest on Friday, May 17, 2024 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. He was the husband of the late Joyce D. Fisher Droege for 72 years before she passed away on November 3, 2021. He was born in San Bernardino, CA, son of the late Aloysius, Sr. and Caroline Smith Droege. Len was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII as a Gunner's Mate in the Armed Guard and was on one of the Liberty ships during the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2294. Len was a member of Teamster Local #771 and a life member of Red Rose Memorial VFW Post #2435 and a life member of CAF. He was a charter member of SIMCA and the Mid Atlantic Air Museum, and was a member of AMA. He enjoyed aviation.

Len was a truck driver for several companies, primarily Mushroom Transportation. He was interested in motorcycles, having several Indian Motorcycles through the years. He and Joyce enjoyed taking the family on camping trips and eventually built a cabin in Huntington County.

He is survived by six sons: Tim, Tom, Ted, Lenny, Jr, Kurt and Alan. One daughter: Jody Cornelius. Sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother: Tom and one sister Carolyn. He was preceded in death by one brother: Aloysius Droege, Jr.

The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel, Celebrant. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
