Geraldine M. Leed

Geraldine M. Leed, 93, of New Providence, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford. She was the wife of the late Frank B. Leed who passed away on July 14, 2021. She was born in Refton, daughter of the late Ambros and Ella E. Graeff Wirth. Geraldine was a homemaker and was a member of Green Hill United Methodist Church, Conestoga. In her early years she was a child-care sitter and loved gardening, flowers, bird watching and reading.

She is survived by one son: Jeffrey A. (Cindy L.) Kauffman, Millersville. Two daughters: Connie M. Weaver, Dartmouth, MA and Charlene Burkholder, Lititz. One daughter-in-law: Susan Kauffman, Lancaster. Six grandchildren. Eleven great-grandchildren. One great-great-granddaughter. One sister: Glenda (Robert) Hollbien, York. She was preceded in death by one son: Melvin J. Kauffman; one sister: Marlene Rice and one granddaughter: Shannon Rothfus.

Robert R. Shultz

Robert R. Shultz, 84, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital, of natural causes. He was the husband of the late Shirley Shultz for 49 years before she passed away and Diane McCarty Lewis Rinier Shultz with whom he celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on July 30, 2021. He was born in Lancaster and was a supervisor for Kerr Glass for more than 30 years before his retirement. Following retirement, he delivered for Darrenkamp's, Mount Joy where he met his loving wife. He was a Veteran of the US Army for 6 years. Bob loved horses, cats, dogs, CB radio, bird watching, camping, cars, casinos, Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State and telling stories that made everyone laugh.

He is survived by his children: Robert (Lisa) Shultz, Millersville and Steve Shultz, Lancaster. Two step-children: Jason Lewis and Kimberly Lewis both of Lancaster. Six grandchildren: Bobby, Brent, Katlin, Ryan, Megan, and Jordyn. Five great-grandchildren: Makailee, Jalisa, Lily, Farrah and Kaliyah. Five step-grandchildren: Taya, Kiri, Sierra, Jason, Jr, and Carter.

Lori A. Lewis

Lori A. Lewis, 50, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. She was the wife of Leroy R. Lewis, Jr. with whom she celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 15, 2021. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of Richard W. Hutzler, Willow Street and the late Mae C. Jackson Pierson Hutzler. She worked as an administrative assistant at Stevens School of Technology. Lori was a member of Community United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, knitting, needlepoint, cross stitching and her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband and father, her children: Connor A. Hutzler; Hunter R. Lewis; Dakota M. Lewis; Cheyann T. Lewis; Dalton R. Lewis; Ciara R. Lewis; Wyatt J. Lewis and Montana G. Lewis, all of Lancaster. One brother: Donald M. (Beth) Pierson, Conestoga.

Donna J. Smith

Donna J. Smith, 89, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. She was formerly the wife of Earl P. Graham and later was the wife of the late Robert F. Smith, who passed away on May 28, 1996. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late John H. and Mary Elizabeth Sherich Culp. Donna worked as an inspector for Wyeth Laboratories, Marietta. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and enjoyed her good friends, family, and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Linda (David) Zipp; Earl (Sarah) Graham, Jr.; Michael (Kathy) Graham; Lisa (Robert) Bailey and Robin Graham. Thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters: John (Joanne) Culp; Joan (Everett) Clark; Jean Bowers; Connie (Carroll) Hartlaub and David Culp. Betty M. Greenawalt

Betty M. Greenawalt, 98, of Maytown, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at home. She was born in Steelton, daughter of the late James M. and Ethel Minnich Dugan. Betty attended St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia and was a graduate of Steelton High School, Class of 1941.

She is survived by one daughter: Carol Steiner, Lancaster. Two grandchildren: Sonya Benner, Maytown and Raj Harman, Ormond Beach, FL. Four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers: James Dugan, Steelton, Patrick Dugan, Florida and Harold Dugan, Harrisburg.

Rachel J. Steudler Coleman, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Ernest and Mary E. Steckler Steudler. Rachel attended Calvary Church and enjoyed music, dancing, quilting and feeding and watching the wildlife in her backyard.

Carol L. Fasig

Carol L. Fasig, 74, of York, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Colonial Manor. She was the wife of the late John A. Fasig who passed away in 2010. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Harold Shearer and Anna Mary Nauss Grove. Carol was a foundry worker having worked at Donsco, Inc., Wrightsville and was a dinner server at Willow Valley Retirement Community. She enjoyed crafts and dogs.

Carol is survived by three sons: Wayne L. (Michael) Woodward; Scott W. (Rebecca) Adams and Clarence “Butch” (Tonia Hoffman) Tome, Jr. Two daughters: Tammy Adams and Wendy S. Serrano. Two brothers and two sisters. Eleven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.

Deneen L. Boyd, 55, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at home. She was the daughter of Peggy Boyd, Mountville and the late Lonnie Boyd. She was the companion of David P. Weyrick. Deneen was a graduate of Hempfield High School who loved flowers, as well as arranging them; decorating; her animals; jewelry; hiking and nature. She was an aspiring survivalist.

Surviving in addition to her mother and companion, her daughters: April Gerlitzki, Mountville; Nicole Gerlitzki, Manheim and Jenna Free, Lebanon. Two grandchildren: Adena and Eric "EJ", III. She was preceded in death by one son: Eric J. Gerlitzki, Jr.

Betty Jane Townsley

Betty Jane Townsley, 97, of Lancaster, formerly of York County, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Homestead Village. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Stillinger Holtzinger. After her mother's death, her father married Dorothy Sipe and it was then that Betty grew to have six brothers and sisters. She was Valedictorian of her 1941 graduating class from Hellam High School. As a young girl, she loved swimming in the Susquehanna River and dancing at the Accomac Inn. She loved being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a member of the Yorkana Congregation. She spent most of her life teaching people about the Bible. In the early years of being a wife and mother, she sold baked goods around the neighborhood and at market. You name it and she baked it. One of the all-time favorites of her customers were her sticky buns. Later in life she had her own cleaning business, (SunBrite Cleaning) and worked into her 80's cleaning homes and businesses. She enjoyed camping, farming, raising goats, playing games and making funny faces.

She is survived by six children: Carol Lawton; Patricia Shunk; Charles Townsley, Jr.; John Townsley; Linda Grove and Joseph Townsley. Eight grandchildren: Chris and Andrew Norris; Bryon and Emily Loughran; Eric and Aaron Townsley; Olyssa Troop and Alexa Townsley. Seven great-grandchildren. One brother: Harold Holtzinger. Also, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Cathy Norris. One brother: Charles Holtzinger. Four sisters: Gloria Wise; Delma Winand; Anna Sloat and Rosanna Fry.

In her later years, she suffered a stroke and took up residence at Homestead Village and they became part of her extended family. Her family cannot thank the nurses, caregivers and doctor enough for all they have done for Betty.

Betty was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend who will be missed by many.

Judith K. McCall

Judith K. McCall, 81, of East Hempfield Township, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was born in Elizabethtown, daughter of the late John and Florence "Mayo" Woods Berrier. Judy worked as a bookkeeper for Penn Crest Construction for 35 years before her retirement. She loved cooking, hosting for her family, especially her grandchildren, for the holidays.

Christine M. Austin, 68, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at York Hospital. She was born in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late James W. and Mary Mitzenius Halford. Christine attended St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and enjoyed sewing, visiting and spending time with her family.

Marilyn J. McKain

Marilyn J. McKain, 77, of Landisburg, formerly of Landisville and Mount Joy, passed away peacefully, after her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at home. She was the loving wife of the late George H. "Ted" McKain, who passed away in 2010. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late J. Robert and Dorothy E. "Dottie" Aulthouse Kopp. Marilyn was a graduate of Manheim Township High School, Class of 1962. She was a receiver, having worked for AMP, Inc. for 26 years before her retirement. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist and St. Marks United Methodist churches for many years. She was loved by all who knew her. Marilyn dedicated her life to her family. Her grandchildren were her greatest delight.  She enjoyed decorating her home for holidays throughout the years and baking the best pies and cookies. Marilyn sang in the school and church choirs in her younger days and continued to bless all with her beautiful voice throughout her life.  

Marilyn is survived by her five children: Tedd (Susan) McKain, Raleigh, NC; Doug (Sue) McKain, Lititz; Gay Erb, Lancaster; Jill McKain, Landisburg, with whom she resided; and Angela McKain, fiance of Jarett Jones, Mountville. Ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, (with three more on the way). She leaves behind a family of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Mundorf; brother, Mark Kopp and son-in-law, Stephen Erb.

Cathryn D. Henny

Cathryn D. Henny, 82, of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at home after a courageous 2 year battle with colon cancer. She was born in Washington Boro, PA, daughter of the late Abram O. and Edith Cecilia Frey Duke. She was a seamstress having worked for area sewing factories when she was younger. She later owned and operated the Prospect Diner in Columbia, PA. Cathryn was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Marietta, PA. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She lived her life as an adventurous free thinking individual and was a positive influence on her family and friends.

Surviving are her children: David (Ben Dunlap) Leas; Lawrence (Terri Whyne) Leas; Christine (Richard) Stoutzenberger; Douglas (Alisa So) Leas and Corey Leas, Jr. Six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Siblings: Dorothy Dinkle; Jane Kauffman; Nancy Baer; Helen Buchmoyer; Abram Duke; Henry (Paula) Duke; Ben Duke and Carol Adams. Carol Ann Giorgio, 75, of East Hempfield Township, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. She was born in East Lemon, PA, daughter of the late Van C. and Margaret L. McConnell Rought. She was a certified phlebotomist/lab tech. Carol was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School, Class of 1963. Carol's talent as an artist was depicted through her many drawings. She enjoyed crocheting, preparing meals for her family and spending quality time with them. She considered her family her "riches" and her grandchildren her "gems".

She is survived by one son: Jason G. (Kathryn E.) Giorgio, San Diego, CA. One daughter: Nicole M. (Joseph A.) Sheaffer, Lancaster. Eight grandchildren: Selena, Gabriel, Griffin, Dax, Nicholas, Savannah, Penelope and Dalton. Two brothers: George and Daniel Rought, both of Lancaster. Pastor Jay M. Frey, Jr.

Pastor Jay M. Frey, Jr., 57, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021. He was the husband of Jean M. Otto Frey, to whom he was married for 37 years. Jay was born in Lancaster, son of Jay M. (Julia) Frey, Sr., Mountville, and the late Amy L. Frey. He was the Pastor of New Path Community Church, Mount Joy. Jay was a loving husband, father, Pop Pop, and pastor. His passion and love for people was apparent to all who knew him. Jay enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his church family. To know him was to love him.

Michael J. Bartch

Michael J. Bartch, 62, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Donald W., Sr. and Alice Herchelroath Bartch. Mike was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1978. He most recently worked at Boscov's and was always the comedian and life of the party. He was artistically talented and enjoyed drawing, painting and decorating.

He is survived by his brother: Donald W. Bartch, II, Blain, PA. His aunt: Jane (Dennis) Kelec. His uncle: Barry (Pam) Herchelroath, Columbia. Also numerous nieces and nephews. He was particularly close to his niece, Amber Shaeffer, Mount Joy and her boys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Dee Ann Tropasso; his brother: Robert B. Bartch and sister-in-law: Kathy Bartch.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The Peace of the Lord be with you, Michael.

Rose Marie White

Rose Marie White, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the home she shared with her daughter, where she was blessed to reside the past two years. Rose Marie was born on March 16, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Dr. David Eliot and Harriett Rose (Elliott) Bixby. She graduated from Rock Creek High School Class of 1956, and she married Kenneth W. White on November 24, 1957, at the Rock Creek United Methodist Church. Rose Marie received her associate in nursing from Kent State University and worked as a registered nurse for many years. Together they raised their family of three in Rock Creek and later settled in North Kingsville, Ohio for over 30 years. Rose Marie loved her entire family and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She adored music; she had a beautiful voice and enjoyed playing the organ and piano. She also loved to travel, particularly enjoying any time she spent at the ocean or in the mountains. She treasured her church families and was most recently blessed to be a part of the Gageville United Methodist and First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster churches. Rose Marie enjoyed life to the fullest until her passing; she embraced the peace and tranquility of her last days surrounded by friends and family - singing and reading, a passion she held onto in her final days.

Rose Marie is survived by her children David G. (Laura) White and Greg K. (Kathryn) White, both of Ashtabula and Janet A. White of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren, Andrew (Stacy) and Nicholas (Amanda) White; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Madilyn, and Emilia. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband, Kenneth W. White in 2018.

A local graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3140 E. Center Rd. (US Route 20), North Kingsville on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Terry Simpson, officiating. Augusta V. "Gussie" Herr

Augusta V. “Gussie” Herr, 96, of Mount Joy, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Paramount Senior Living, Maytown. She was the wife of the late Glenn E. Herr, who passed away on May 14, 1986. Gussie was born in Wall, PA, daughter of the late James and Augusta Koch Gummo. She worked as a spot welding helper for Armstrong World Industries and also at Ormond’s Dress Store, Park City Center for 19 years. Gussie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church; Reese Hall VFW Post #8757 Ladies Auxiliary, Mountville, where she served as past president, treasurer and chaplain; a member of BPOE #1076 Ladies Auxiliary, Columbia, where she was a past-chaplain; the American Legion Post #469, Wrightsville; Farm Women’s Society #8; Mount Joy Leisure Club; Mount Joy Christian Women’s; AARP Centerville; Opal’s at Manor Church and the Hempfield Singles at Hempfield United Methodist Church.

Gussie is survived by two daughters: Darlene Lapham, Felton, DE and Cheryl Ann (John) Rebman, Mount Joy. Two grandchildren. Five great-grandchildren. One step-granddaughter and one step-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Diane Herr; three brothers: Joseph, James and Edward Gummo; two sisters: Anna Lydon and Naomi Causer.

James W. Reinfried, Sr.

James W. Reinfried, Sr., 87, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021. He was the husband of Dolores Marie Becker Reinfried. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Charles H., Sr. and Margaret Fritsch Reinfried. Jim was a tool and die maker/designer, having worked for Graybill Tool and Die, Manheim, Microprecision, Mountville and AMP, Inc., Landisville. He was a co-founder and member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Lancaster Liederkranz and was also a founding member of the Millersville Hunting Club. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, hiking and camping.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Linda M. (David) Wagner; James W. (Jeannie) Reinfried, Jr.; Michael A. (Theresa) Reinfried and Margaret C. (Edward) Milford. Eight grandchildren: David, Jr., Matthew, Jennifer, Kevin, Jason, Amanda, Daniel and James. Five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother: Charles H. Reinfried, Sr. Three sisters: Mary Jane Bohner, Margaret Frankson and Marion Penwell.

Norman C. Warner, Sr., 72, of Washington Boro, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. He was the husband of Beverly A. Guiles Warner.
