Kenneth E. Burkhart

Kenneth E. Burkhart, 79, of Washington Boro, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at home. He was the husband of the late Janice E. Burkhart. Ken was born in Reinholds, son of the late Lester H. and Mabel G. Horning Burkhart. He was an insurance claims adjuster for Equifax Insurance Company before his retirement. Ken was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of Manor Church. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of Wild Country Hunting Club, Tioga County; traveling, especially cruises; gardening and going to the beach at Virginia Beach.

He is survived by one son: Chad E. (Kelly A.) Burkhart, Lancaster. One brother: David and one sister: Barbara. He was preceded in death by one sister: Mildred.

Nancy G. Schlossman

Nancy G. Schlossman, 84, of Leola, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Roland S. and Jane L. Peters Knopp. Nancy was a quality inspector for HDJ Company, Lancaster for 13 years before her retirement in 1999 and she enjoyed crafts.

She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Ann (Robin) Frame, Manheim and Suzanna Merry. Five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren. Also numerous nephews and nieces which includes: Sue Spickler and Vicki Peoples. She was preceded in death by two sons: William G. Shuman and Robert Charles. One daughter: Lynn M. Heisey. Two sisters: Joanne Dommel and Jacqueline Snow.

Mable E. Lightcap

Mable E. Lightcap, 78, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert R. Lightcap, who passed away in 2007. She was born in West Hempfield Township, daughter of the late John and Freda Kline Conrad. Mable was a candy maker for M&M Mars, Elizabethtown for 21 years before her retirement in 2001. She was a member of Ironville United Methodist Church and was a coach for Special Olympics. Her family which included her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her.

She is survived by her children: Bonnie S. Roehm, Middletown; Amanda H. Lightcap, Columbia and John A. Lightcap, Columbia. Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One niece: Ruth Penwell. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Gladys Conrad and Mary Penwell.

Titina Maria Heisler

Titina Maria Heisler, 93, of Millersville, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of the late Thomas M. Heisler, Jr. for 53 years before he passed away in 2000. She was born in Gasperina, Italy, daughter of the late Francesco and Carmen (Catrabone) Castano. Titina immigrated to the United States in 1930, eventually landing with her family in Lancaster City. She attended Sacred Heart School where she eventually married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, to her husband at the age of 19. Prior to her marriage, she worked with her father in a local shoe factory, telling her grandchildren many years later, that the reason she ate so fast was due to the short time that they were given for lunch. However, anyone that was ever a guest in her house knows that it was because she never sat down, making sure everyone had something to eat or drink.

As a wife, mother and grandmother, Titina loved and cared for several generations of children. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren counted themselves lucky to grow up in a household that prized fun and affection above all else. She walked to school, cooked for, dressed and played many a card game, never turning away a chance to bandage a skinned knee or kiss away a hurt. She was an example of unconditional love.

Titina loved cooking (and everyone enjoyed her homemade meatballs), managing the household and never missed her favorite show, Days of Our Lives. With all of the children she cared for, it was shocking how clean her house could be! She relished going to craft shows and downtown shopping with her best friend Betty Bachman, as well as day trips with Doris and Bob Barr.

She is survived by her children: Martin F. (Carol) Heisler; Suzanne H. (Ronald) Finch and Thomas M. (Kathy) Heisler, III. Three granddaughters: Shannon Weaver; Titina Brown and Jessica Rebman. Six great-grandchildren: Ryan Dimmig; Claudia Geiger; Logan Weaver; Harrison and Hayden Brown and Ethan Rebman. Siblings: Rosina Macrina; Philomena McKinney and Gregory Castano. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister: Sandra Hickey and her granddaughter: Heather Dimmig.

Titina's family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses of Hospice that provided the same loving care in her last weeks that she gave others her entire life.

Kim Lee Campbell

Kim Lee Campbell, 41, of Manor Township, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at home. She was born in Winchester, IN daughter of the late Franklin, Jr. and Linda Warfel Campbell. Kim loved cats and to draw, paint and sew. She was an artistic person.

Melvin E. Detz

Melvin E. Detz, 78, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Barbara Ann Christian Detz, who passed away on March 1, 2015. He was born in Marietta, son of the late Quintin and Rebecca Barninger Detz. He was a police officer before his retirement. Melvin was a veteran of the US Army and attended Faith Bible Church and enjoyed bingo and the Sunday family dinners.

He is survived by two brothers: Vernon Detz and Robert Detz. One sister: Catherine (Rodney) Griffith. Also, several nieces and nephews.

Doris A. Kauffman

Doris A. Kauffman, 90, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Juniper Village. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Clarence J. and Ruth E. Kauffman Kauffman. She was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an assembler for Hamilton Watch, Company for 45 years before her retirement. Her family was everything to her.

She is survived by one daughter: Vicki L. (Michael E.) Gieniec, West Hempfield Twp. Three grandchildren: Ashley R. Gieniec; Jamie L. (Michael) Pikolas and Adam E. Gieniec. Seven great grandchildren. Bonnie L. Spencer Ulmer Dewitsky

Bonnie L. Spencer Ulmer Dewitsky, 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. She was the wife of Michael F. Dewitsky, with whom she would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2022. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Kyle E. and Okie C. Hash Spencer. Bonnie grew up in the Oxford/Nottingham area and attended Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in two quartets, in church and on the radio. She worked at RCA as a young adult until she married Ronald L. Ulmer and became a mother and homemaker. Later in life she worked at John Herr's Village Market, Millersville and then retired from QVC as a Returns Processor. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. When she was unable to garden herself, her loving husband did it for her upon her direction. Her yard was always picture perfect and looked like it should be on the cover of a magazine. Bonnie loved to be near her family and friends, loved to sing and dance, play cards with her daughter and sister, and go to the movies every Tuesday with her best friend.

Surviving in addition to her husband, her daughter: Lori L. Ulmer (Jeffrey) Barley, Millersville. Son: Douglas P. Ulmer, Lancaster. Three grandchildren: Katelin A. (Kyle) Miller; S. Alan R. “Russ” Barninger

Alan R. "Russ" Barninger, 64, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. He was the husband of Cynthia E. Lowry Barninger with whom he celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2021. He was born in Columbia, son of the late James R. and Maureen Barninger. Russ was a steel worker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1976 and enjoyed playing and coaching softball for 25 years and playing cornhole.

Joseph S. Smith, Sr.

Joseph S. Smith, Sr., 69, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at home. He was the loving husband of Melinda "Mindy" Droege Smith, with whom he spent 12 wonderful years together. Joe was a tractor-trailer driver for 40 years before his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Joe's passion was his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving in addition to his wife, a son, his pride and joy, Joseph S. Smith, Jr., Master Chief in the US Navy and his wife: Naoko. Two grandchildren: Matthew and Hannah Smith. One brother: Ernest Smith, Jr. He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Mike, Greg and Chas Smith and his sister: Floss Wiker.

Lindajo Douts

Lindajo Douts, 72, of Washington Boro, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at home. She was the wife of Lester M. Douts with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 21, 2021. She was born in Baltimore, MD, daughter of Margaret Dayton Fernandez, Hanover and the late Joseph Fernandez. She worked as a housekeeper at Country Meadows for five years and was an assistant cook at Brereton Manor. Lindajo was a member of Manor Church and its Bible Study and Life Groups. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, reading, shopping, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going to the beach at Cape May, NJ.

Paul K. Harnish

Paul K. Harnish, 92, of Washington Boro, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 of natural causes. He was the youngest son of the late George K. and Emma Keener Harnish. Paul was a graduate of Pequea School, Strasburg Township, a one-room school, where he completed the eighth grade. Over the years, Paul was a salesman for Animal Medic, sold various ag commodities and was a self-employed dairy farmer. Following retirement, he held various part-time jobs. His greatest joy was serving as the president and director of Moments of Glad Tidings Chorale and Radio Program, which aired weekly on WDAC from 1960-2003. Throughout his retirement, Paul remained active and enjoyed encouraging residents of many nursing homes with his music. Paul was married to Anna Landis in 1950, who preceded him in death after 67 years of marriage.

He is survived by his seven children: Larry Harnish (m. Paula Harnish); Bob Harnish (m. Karen Deiter); Jean Hoover (m. Don); Marlin Harnish (m. Sharon Hurst); Cheryl Burkholder (m. Rick); Les Harnish (m. late Ramona Adams) and Dale Harnish (m. Kelly Sheetz). They credit their father with conveying the importance of integrity, a good work ethic and serving the Lord with gladness. Thirty-six grandchildren and forty-four great-grandchildren. His sister: Dorothy Meck. He was preceded in death by six siblings.

At the family's convenience, a private graveside service and burial will be held at Habecker Mennonite Cemetery. All are invited to attend a service of celebration and remembrance at Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522 on Paul's birthday, SATURDAY, MARCH 12, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. Donald J. Mimnall

Donald J. Mimnall, Jr., 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Donald J., Sr. and Edith McDonald Mimnall. Known to many as Donnie, he was raised in Washington Boro, spending most of his lifetime there, before recently moving to North Carolina to be with his daughter. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jane and was a gentle loving father to his daughters, Debbie and Kay. After graduating from Thadeus Stevens College of Technology, he was employed by E.E. Murry Construction Company for thirty plus years. He ended his career with Barclay White Skanska, enjoying his last build job in Puerto Rico. Donald treasured spending time with family and friends, was creative, enjoyed woodworking, thoughtfully crafting gifts for others. He enjoyed sharing his train collection with the community, especially at Christmas, when children would experience the trains while enjoying milk and cookies with their parents. He will be remembered by many for his quick wit, loyalty, hard-working spirit and competitive nature, when playing Parcheesi. Donald loved the Lord and attended Faith Bible Fellowship Church and recently Real Life Church, Stanley, NC where he valued the fellowship of the Saturday morning, men's breakfast gang. In his younger years, he liked hunting, spending time in the mountains and playing the trumpet. He also loved music and you would often find him tapping his foot to the Gaithers.

Those left to cherish his memory, includes his wife, Jane E. Roberts Mimnall, whom he referred to as his "sweetheart". Daughter: Kay (David) Osisek, Charlotte, NC. Two sisters: Carol (Barry) Weaver, Refton and Diane (Alan) Niesley, Washington Boro. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who held a very special place in his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Debra Mimnall Wagner.

Heather M. Arndt Hannah

Heather M. Hannah, (maiden name, Arndt), 49, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Christine Kriner. She leaves behind two daughters: Alyssa Quijano and Brenna Johnson. A sister: Marcie Brubaker. Three nieces: Iyanna Brubaker, Alaya Brubaker and Luz James. A nephew: Carlos Brubaker. Her husband: Glenard Hannah and a three year old granddaughter: Kaylani Andrews.

Heather was an amazing woman, mother, friend, sister, aunt, daughter, grandma and wife. She enjoyed bringing a smile to people's faces. She was a woman who you could count on, no matter what. Anyone who knew Heather knows that her granddaughter was her life. She has helped so many people overcome so many hard times and would always lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.

We are happy to know that our mother shared so many memories and great times with so many people. It is unfortunate that she only walked this Earth for a short period of time. Losing her reminds us that angels are always looking over us. Her memory will continue to live on by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy, by living their life to the fullest.

Donald S. Yohe

Donald S. Yohe, 88, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Lancaster General Hospital, on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He was the husband of Shirley A. Henry Yohe, with whom he would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in February, 2022. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Benjamin R. and Dorothy Crom Yohe. He was a self employed plumber and a car enthusiast who loved street rods, the Vagabonds Rod and Custom Club, going to shows, fishing, hunting, antique collecting, and collecting Indian Artifacts.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his son: Donald S. (Michele D.) Yohe, Manheim. One daughter: Susan M. (Thomas J.) Denlinger, Holtwood. Five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Siblings: Helen Shultz, Carol Shive, Dawn Gohn, Wayne Yohe, William Yohe, Patricia Reese and Jean Gipe. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Theresa Yohe. Two brothers: Robert Yohe and Harry Yohe and one sister: Connie Livelberger.

Mary Virginia Heisey

Mary Virginia Heisey, 99, of Manor Township, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 16, 2021. She was the wife of the late Warren N. Heisey to whom she was married for 51 years before his passing in January,1996. She was born in Washington Boro, daughter of the late Charles and Rebecca Schock Kibler. Growing up, Mary was an active part of her family’s farm. After marriage she continued farming, operating a dairy farm with her husband for 35 years. She also sold produce, eggs and baked goods at the Columbia Market House for many years. Following market she developed a ‘farm to table’ route, delivering to customer’s homes and was known as the “Egg Lady” in Columbia. Mary worked at Stonebridge Farm Butcher Shop and then at McCreight Wholesale Florist for 25 years after retiring from dairy farming. She was a very active member of Grace Baptist Church and especially enjoyed cooking and playing jokes on people at their summer camps. Mary loved her family and was always ready to help with any task. She enjoyed canning fruits and freezing corn, hosting yearly group ‘corn freezing parties’ in her basement. Some of her hobbies included growing African Violets and Amaryllis and creating beautiful cross stitch pictures for family and friends. Special travels included trips to Alaska, Hawaii and the Grand Canyon.

She is survived by one son: Paul G. (Debra A.) Heisey and one daughter: Pauline L. (Brian R.) McCreight, all of Washington Boro. Eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mary also raised John A. Wolf of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her siblings: John, Paul, Oliver, Fannie and Verna.

Mary’s hands blessed others her whole life; now she is in the blessed hands of Jesus. Her desire was that many others will also come to rest in her Lord and Savior, especially all of her family.

The Funeral Service will be held at Central Manor Church of God, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joel DeVinney, officiating. Nancy L. Weiss

Nancy L. Weiss, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Newport Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Christiana. She was the wife of the late John F. Weiss who passed away on July 13, 2005. She was born in Palm Dale, PA daughter of the late Earl P. and Clara Shakespeare Stoner. Nancy was a cosmetologist and sold Avon. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed family gatherings, going places with her children, grandchildren and siblings.

She is survived by her children: Jeanne M. (John H., Jr.) Barrett, Mountville; Robert E. (Amy) Weiss, Milton, NH; John S. Weiss (companion of Denise Miller), Lancaster and Mark A. Weiss, York. Seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One brother: Ken Stoner, Palmyra. One sister: Geraldine Clark, Hershey. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Reese and Charlotte VanWinkle.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Interment in Grand View Memorial Park. Jewel M. Atkins

Jewel M. Atkins, 60, of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021. She was the wife of David W. Atkins, with whom she celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on June 21, 2021. She was born in Kansas City, MO, daughter of the late Jack D. and Melinda L. Bunn McHenry. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary, was a classical pianist, and was multi-lingual. She enjoyed cooking and calligraphy. Jewel loved her family, especially her grandchildren who referred to her as "Namma."

Surviving in addition to her husband, daughters: twins, Emily R. (Lars) Pendleton and Julia A. Atkins, Mary E. Atkins and Rachel L. Atkins. Four grandchildren. Two brothers: Tim (Liz) McHenry and Stacy (Lisa) McHenry. Two sisters: Melinda McHenry and Jennifer McHenry.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Marilyn Louise Drake (nee Benedict)

Marilyn Louise Drake (nee Benedict), 67, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at home. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late C. Harold and Mary Jane Dotterer Benedict. She was a registered nurse, having worked in Emergency Nursing at the Osteopathic Medical Center of Philadelphia and the Lankenau Medical Center. Marilyn also worked as an RN at Hospice and Community Care (Lancaster). She was a graduate of Penn Manor High School, Class of 1971, the Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1974, and at one time a volunteer at the Yeadon Fire Company.

She is survived by one son: Andrew T. Drake and one daughter: Pamela J. Drake, both of Philadelphia. One brother: Gregg (Anita) Benedict, Pequea. One sister: Eileen M. Benedict, Levittown and her husband, the late Gary Przybylowski.

A Private Service will be held for the family with interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
