Michael E. Schlossman

Michael E. Schlossman, 68, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of Peggy T. Hipcher Schlossman with whom they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on June 9, 2023. Mike was born in Columbia, son of Martha Eves Schlossman, Columbia and the late Charles E. Schlossman. He worked in Graphic Arts for Intelligencer Printing for 38 years before his retirement. Mike was a member of LCBC. He was a graduate of Hempfield High School (1973); York Academy of Art (1976) and Lebanon Valley College (1997). Mike was a member of the .918 Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, two daughters: Alison E. (Brandon) Keener, Mount Joy and Cailin F. (Nevin) Geesey, Charleston, SC. One grandson: Hendrix. One sister: Dawn (Michael) Bullock, Mountville. Two nephews: Greg (Allison) Bullock and their daughter: Nova, and Kevin (Sam) Bullock.

Virginia "Ginny" Past

Virginia “Ginny” Past, 93, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, after complications from a hip/femur fracture and dementia. She was the wife of the late Donald L. Past to whom she was married for almost 70 years before he passed away on October 23, 2022. She was born in Fargo, ND daughter of the late Raymond G. and Leona Rolle Keller. Virginia was a long-time resident of Ralston and LaVista, Nebraska. A native of North Dakota, Virginia received her RN degree in 1951. She worked as a nurse in Washington State and Grand Forks, ND after graduation. Later in life she worked as an occupational health nurse at Northwestern Bell/Qwest in Omaha and retired in 1990. She and Donald enjoyed playing bridge, travel and family summer vacations at the lake in Minnesota. They were active members of St Gerald Church, Ralston for over 55 years. Virginia was a volunteer for the Omaha chapter of the National League of Families of American Prisoners & Missing in Southeast Asia. Her brother, COL Wendell Keller, an Air Force pilot, was missing in action for 43 years before he was confirmed as killed in action. Along with being a Gold Star sister, Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (also known as Glam-ma to Katy) and great grandmother. We will all miss her so much, especially her beautiful smile.

Virginia is survived by daughters: CAPT (ret) Marilyn Past, Ph.D., USN and Mary (Tim) Rasmussen. Grandchildren: Andrew J.D. (Melanie) Rasmussen; Dan (Lacey) Rasmussen and Katy (Griffin Ph.D.) Schroeder. Three great-grandchildren: Emma Virginia Rasmussen, Charlotte and Alexander Rasmussen. Sisters-in-law: Jacque Carol Keller, Lynn Keller and LaVonne Past. Brother-in-law: Archie Oster. Nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: COL Wendell Keller, USAF; Raymond Keller and David Keller.

The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and support staff at St Anne’s (particularly the “rock-stars” who were so kind and compassionate during her final days). Their caring actions will never be forgotten.

Dalvin R. Krug and Janet M. Krug

Dalvin R. Krug, 92 and Janet M. Krug, 89, both of Columbia, passed away on November 2, 2023 and November 6, 2023, respectively, both at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Dalvin was born in Cherry Tree, PA, son of the late Reed and Kathleen Pfister Krug. He worked in the Parts and Shipping Department for Caterpillar, Inc. for twenty years before he retired in 1996. Dalvin was a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Janet was born in Sprangler, PA, daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Malisa Smarsh. She worked in the warehouse at McCrory’s before her retirement.

They were both members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and are survived by their three sons: Dalvin J. (Jackie) Krug, York; Michael (Lisa) Krug, York and Terry Krug, Mount Joy. One daughter: Regina Spence, York. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Dalvin is also survived by brothers: Edward (Jean) Krug and James (Eleanor) Krug, all of Cambria County. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul and Francis Krug. Janet was preceded in death by two brothers: Stephen and Joseph Smarsh and three sisters: Margaret Morris; Lillian Panaro and Mary Kay Smarsh.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel, as Celebrant. Angela M. Culp

Angela M. Culp, 57, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at home. She was the wife of Christopher D. Quinn with whom she would have celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2023. She was born in Columbia, daughter of David O. Culp, Lancaster and Diane M. Dinkel Orem and step-father, William T. Orem, Lancaster. Angela was of the catholic faith and was a housekeeper. She loved animals.

Robert T. "Bob" Eck, Sr.

Robert T. "Bob" Eck, Sr., 80, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. He was the loving husband of Patricia H. Overly Eck, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 23, 2023. He was born in York, son of the late Thomas A. and Julia A. Strausbaugh Eck. Bob was a Commercial Art Instructor at the Lancaster County CTC, retiring in 2005, after 28 years. Prior, he was a self-employed Graphic Design Artist and Sign-Writer, and an Art Director for various companies and hotel chains. Bob was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Leader and was involved in the “Order of the Arrow” as a Vigil member and leader. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and was an avid fly-fisherman. Bob was humble and a dedicated family man. He was a man of principal and conviction. Bob enjoyed traveling west for various fishing trips and appreciated the beauty of nature. He played softball and baseball and is on the Willow Street Wall of Fame.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Robert T. (Judith "Candy") Eck, Jr.; Donna M. (Ronald G.) Daub and Lisa L. Eck. Ten grandchildren: Justine (William) Hallgren; Christopher Daub; Yvonne (Scott) Lazarus; Heather (Austin) Cornell; Alex (Courtney) Ressler; Kristin (Shane) Wert; Amanda Williams; Leandra (Andrew) Holt; Kayla (Timothy) Hilton and Danielle Garman. Jolin T. Dees

Jolin T. Dees, 60, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of John S. (stepmother: Carol) Eberly and Joan L. Flora Martin. Jolin worked in Customer Service for Kleen-Rite. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and loved the outdoors, fishing, crocheting, spending time with her children, grandchildren and family and was a seamstress.

Surviving are her children: Whittney Eberly; Joshua (Amanda) Barrett; Geremy Dees and Eric (Brenda) Dees. Two grandchildren: Tyler Eberly and Addisyn Barrett. Her companion: David Bender. Siblings: Joni (James) Benedict; Joy (Kevin) Cummings and Jon (Christine) Eberly. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy A. "Dot" Bitner

Dorothy A. "Dot" Bitner, 86, of Washington Boro, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at St. Anne's Retirement Community, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Robert W. Bitner, with whom she would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on December 16, 2023. Dot was born in Lewistown, daughter of the late Theodore R. and Gladys Espigh Kauffman. Dot was a Nurse's Aide at Brereton Manor for over 20 years before retiring in January of 2005. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Creswell and assisted with the nursery and small children. She loved flowers, Gospel Music, and especially her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband, four sons: Robert (Bev) Bitner, Jr., Mountville; Jeff (Cheryl) Bitner, Conestoga; Jim (Rachel) Bitner, West Hempfield, Twp. and Dwayne (Renee) Bitner, Wrightsville. Eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Five sisters: Esther (late Max) Gaisior; Anna (Ronnie) Casner; Nancy (late Ron) Yoder; Barb (Paul) Kuhns and Chris (Chris) Baker. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Debra K. Kneisley

Debra K. Kneisley, 60, of Lancaster, passed away at home, on Sunday, November 5, 2023, peacefully in her sleep, after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer's. She was the wife of Raymond G. Kneisley, III, to whom she was married for 38 years on October 19, 2023. She was born in Bloomsburg, daughter of the late Glenn and Elsie J. Hess Raup. Deb was a school teacher in the Hempfield School District at Rohrerstown Elementary School for 31 years. She was a very active member of Reformation Lutheran Church, the Children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Deb loved traveling, her children, grandchildren and her friends. She was genuine, kind and always had a joyful smile.

Surviving in addition to her husband, one son: Shawn A. Kneisley, Lancaster. Two daughters: Brynne E. (Aaron C.) Young, East Petersburg and Melissa R. (Alex P.) Tarnow, Austin, TX. Kenneth L. Falcon

Kenneth L. Falcon, 77, of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at home. He was the husband of Diane C. Kise Falcon with whom he celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on March 12, 2023. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Tressa Graham. He was a tool and die maker for AMP and KD Tools for many years. Ken was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1965 where he was on the championship football team. Ken was a member of Reese-Hall VFW Post #8757 and the American Legion Post #466, Marietta. He enjoyed playing softball, hunting and fishing. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mike McCrabb

Mike McCrabb, 77, of Manheim, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at home. He was born in Dijon, France, son of the late Loyal M., Jr. and Solange Merisky McCrabb. He was an aircraft engineer for McDonald-Douglas and Boeing. Mike was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He built and flew radio controlled model airplanes and enjoyed his Porsche, oil painting and gardening.

Surviving is one daughter: Lisa Marie McCrabb, Portland, OR. One granddaughter: Mia. One sister: Denise (Greg) Rupert, Manheim. He was preceded in death by one son: Michael Thomas McCrabb.

Samuel E. Smith, Jr.

Samuel E. Smith, Jr., 84, of Lancaster, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was the husband of Judith A. Arndt Smith, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 17, 2023. He was born in Hershey, son of the late Samuel E., Sr. and Elizabeth A. Webb Smith. Sam was a CPA for Simon Lever and Company for 34 years. He was also a realtor. Sam was a longtime member of Hempfield United Methodist Church where he worked in the Business Office. He enjoyed all Philadelphia sports teams, Penn State football, going to the beach at Ocean City, NJ, traveling and going to his grandchildren's sporting events. His faith and attending his Bible Study Group were very important to him.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Kathryn A. (Kevin J.) Pobursky, Lancaster. Two sons: Bradford M. (Judy) Smith, West Palm Beach, FL and Jeffrey A. (Anne E.) Smith, Lancaster. Six grandchildren: Tyler, Tanner, Brandt, Matthew (Shaye), Trenton and Madison. One brother: Barry (Vicki) Smith, Palmyra. One sister: Gloria (Tom) Ulrich, Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by one brother: John Robert (late Donna) Smith.

Margaret Anne (Moore) Gable

Margaret Anne (Moore) Gable, 93, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023. She married Robert E. Gable in 1948, who passed on January 13, 1999. Peg was born on the Mifflin Estate, the seventh child of the late Paul Coniber and Anna Dorthea Helwig Moore. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for St. Anne's Retirement Community, then for Dr. Landis, Columbia. She also did private duty nursing. Switching careers, she became a school bus driver for Hempfield School District. Ever the entrepreneur, she ran a breakfast service out of her son-in-law's restaurant. She attended Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream School and held various certificates in jewelry design. She loved to cook, craft, paint and travel. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren.

Peg is survived by her children: Roberta E. (Jim) Nagle; Eric H. (Peggy) Gable; Kathleen M. (Nino) Mannino and Robert R.H. (Viola) Gable. Grandchildren: Josh, Erin, Krista, Julie, Nino, and Mike. Great-grandchildren: James, Jenna, Clay, Faith, Emma, Caiden, Cooper, Anthony, Lorenzo, Maddelena and Emilia. She was preceded in death by one son: Michael E. Gable, one brother: Paul and sisters: Grace, Jean, Lucy, Ella, Nancy and Doris.

I'll leave you with her favorite Bible passage: But those who hope in the Lord, will renew Their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. (Is. 40:31).

Jay William “Bill” Charles

Jay William "Bill" Charles, 78, of Elizabethtown, entered his eternal home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. He was the husband of Janice F. Raifsnider Charles. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Jacob E. and Edna Meese Charles. Bill graduated from Manheim Township High School, Class of 1963 and Millersville University, Class of 1967. Bill taught high school math for 30 years at Pequea Valley High School, coached girls basketball, negotiated school contracts, and chaperoned the Honor Society to Germany. He was an avid golfer, playing in high school and college. His passing leaves a huge, empty space in many hearts.

Surviving in addition to his wife, step-daughter: Jessica Knutson, her children: Aaron, Sage, Conner and Isabel, of Lakewood, Washington. Stepson: John Loftis, Philadelphia. Granddaughter: Amara Jhene, Elizabethtown, who was the apple in his life, spending a lot of time together, until the Alzheimer's made it difficult. He was preceded in death by one son: Robert Charles.

Larry R. Eisenberger, 68, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of Hilda T. Graham Eisenberger and the late Ronald C. Eisenberger. Larry was a graduate of Pequea Valley High School, Class of 1973. He was a roofer, and an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He loved his Golden Retriever, "Buddy".

Phyllis “Beck” Miller

Phyllis "Beck" Miller, 81, of Mountville, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of the late Ronald L. Miller, who passed away on January 20, 2018. Phyllis was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Paul and Vinette DeHaven Beck. She was a cosmetologist for twenty years, owning and operating Plain and Fancy Salon in Lancaster and Rohrerstown and worked for 18 years at Fulton Bank, Mountville before retiring in 2004. Phyllis was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, was a graduate of Manheim Township High School, Class of 1960, played team tennis and was a member of Racquet Club West for 35 years.

She is survived by one son: Brian S. (Lorna L.) Miller, San Diego. Two grandsons: John P. Miller and Joseph P. (fiancée: Kat Tsai) Miller, all of San Diego. She was preceded in death by one sister: Joyce Evans.

Clair L. Crist

Clair L. Crist, 89, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Elizabethtown Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the husband of Ruth Leppo Crist who passed away on March 1, 2015. Clair was born in Spring Grove, son of the late G. Ernest and Louisa M. Crone Crist. He was an Architectural Draftsman for various companies and retired from J.C. Snavely & Sons in January, 2000 after 25 years. Clair was a graduate of Stevens Trade School, Class of 1953 and was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.

 He is survived by his children: Elaine R. (Bobby) Myers; Rosemary (Lee) Keller; Fay M. (Robert) Simmons and Allan S. (Carol) Crist. Ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Siblings: James (Frances) Crist; Glenn (Barbara) Crist and Judy (Steve) Bollinger.

Bonnie L. Engle

 Bonnie L. Engle, 92, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Juniper Village. She was the wife of the late Richard L. Engle, who passed away on March 19, 2008. Bonnie was born in Washington Boro, daughter of the late Edwin, Sr. and Florence Miller Ortman.

 She is survived by one son: Barry R. (Patricia) Engle, Manheim and one daughter: Karen D. (Scott) Lithgow, West Hempfield Township. Four grandchildren: Richard B. Edward Neff Heistand Bender, Jr.

Edward Neff Heistand Bender, Jr., 56, of Wrightsville, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at home with his loving wife, Kimberly A. Adams Bender and family by his side. He was born in Columbia, son of Cynthia L. Heistand, Texas and the late Edward Neff Bender, Sr. He worked for Columbia Merchandising for 20 years. Ed loved hunting, fishing and expressed his artisitic side by doing wood burning projects.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, one daughter Skylar. Sisters: Prudence (Jason) Logan, Columbia and Greta (Billy) Dilluvid, Texas. Brother: John Heistand, Washington Boro. Two aunts: Kim Bender (Ricardo) Hernandez, Middletown and Marilyn Shultz. Brothers-in-law: Rick Adams; Brian Adams; Randy Adams; Ronnie Adams and Chris Adams. Nieces and nephews and several cousins.

The Memorial Service will be held at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 655 South Tenth Street, Columbia on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Anne Kingsborough, officiating. Cheryl L. Eckman

Cheryl L. Eckman, 72, of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Lancaster Medical Center. She was the wife of William M. Eckman, Sr. to whom she was married for 51 years. Cheryl was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Jackson and June Ruhl Goeke. She was formerly employed at Hamilton Watch Company and was the Activity Director for St. Joseph Hospital Adult Daycare Center. Cheryl was a graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1968. She was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved going to concerts, listening to music, dancing, playing trivia, and scrapbooking photo albums of each grandchild. Cheryl was a member of the American Legion Post #34 Auxiliary and also volunteered for the Mountville Community Service Foundation.

Surviving in addition to her husband, her loving children: William M. (Heather) Eckman, Jr.; Melanie (Mike) Dietrich; John (Jessica) Eckman and Matthew (Heidi) Eckman. Nine grandchildren, whom she loved deeply: Allison (Tyler) Smith; Lily (Joseph) Firuta; Kathryn; Wyatt; Zachary; Jay; Joshua; Jaxson and Matthew. Siblings: George Goeke; Barbara Schultheiss; Robert Goeke and Jack Goeke.

The Memorial Service will be held at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3825 Concordia Road, Columbia on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Anne Kingsborough, officiating. Richard L. Householder

Richard L. Householder, 72, of Mount Joy, passed away at home on Friday, October 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. Richard was the husband of Carol A. Murphy Householder, to whom he was married for 44 years. He was born in New Castle son of the late Raymond and Mabel Murphy Householder. Richard was an electrician by trade for several companies and for anyone that needed help. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing fantasy football, listening to music, watching westerns, taking care of his home and always being right.

Surviving in addition to his wife, two children: Richard (Melissa) Householder, Landisville and Leanne (Robert) Martin, Harrisburg. Eleven grandchildren: Tianna, Benjamin, Alexander, Evelyn, Raeanne, Rebekah, Ramiah, Raziel, Raquel, Rahsaan and Raelynn, who all loved their "Pappy". He will be missed greatly. Four siblings: Robert (Charlotte) Householder; Janet (late Robert) McFate; Joyce (Stephen) Coonfare and Karin (Byron) Walters.
